Welcome to the 2025 UEFA Women’s European Championships! Here we are now at the semifinals stage. Today England takes on Italy in a matchup that should feature Bayern Munich midfielders on each side of the field.
The defending champion Lionesses have had a decent tournament so far but were tested hard by Sweden, who raced out to a 2-0 lead before succumbing to an English brace and then losing in a bizarre penalty shootout. Jennifer Falk, probably Sweden’s player of the match, had made sensational
saves and had the chance to win it all for her side when she stepped up to take one of her own...but she skied it, saved the next one, and had to watch as England ultimately prevailed.
Italy, meanwhile, won a thriller in the quarters over Norway. Cristiana Girelli capped off her brace in the 90th minute to send her team through.
Now the big question. Pavarotti > The Beatles? That’ll be decided today on the field.
