The Seattle Seahawks were back on the practice field Thursday for Day 8 of training camp, with pads back on after a non-contact practice on Wednesday.
The biggest news of the day was, of course, the report from Albert Breer of SI that starting left tackle Charles Cross recently had surgery on a dislocated finger, but that he is expected back prior to the start of the regular season. Head coach Mike Macdonald touched on that subject after practice, noting that the team expects Cross back during the bye
week between the final preseason game and Week 1 of the regular season.

Macdonald also provided a bit of insight on a vague timeline for the competition at right guard and center, where Olu Oluwatimi, Jalen Sundell, Christian Haynes, Anthony Bradford and potentially others, are competing for the starting spots.
Mike Macdonald said now that pads are on competitions at RG and C are "starting to come into focus a little bit" but says the competition will continue through a preseason game or two before decisions are made.

Given that statement, it would appear that the competition may well run through the first two games of the preseason, with the starting line most likely to be known heading into the preseason finale against the Green Bay Packers on August 23.
For those looking for insight on the competition as it played out in practice, Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times was courteous enough to provide some details.
... Seahawks were in full pads and also did a lot of run game work. Cross' absence meant some more mixing and matching on the line. Jones and Jerrell got snaps at LT. Sundell got some snaps at RT. ....

... Haynes again played a lot of center but he had two high snaps, each time being immediately replaced. I didn't notice any injuries or any new absences. Same guys who have been absent again absent, such as Ernest Jones, Griffin and Hankins.

And for some other quick observations from others from the practice.

-Nick Emmanwori reeled in a highlight reel diving interception
-Great two-minute drill period for Jalen Milroe running and throwing with 35-yard strike to Brady Russell
-Damarion Williams with red zone pick vs. Drew Lock
... Nick Emmanwori had another pick of Jalen Milroe, this one on a diving catch of a pass Milroe made when he was trying to evade pressure. Looked like in a game it might have been a sack. Milroe finished really strong, though...

.... Milroe threw a long pass to Brady Russell down the seam during a late team session and also ripped off one long run. Drew Lock also threw an interception on a pass picked off by Damarion Williams. Jake Bobo had a good day with a couple highlight catches. ....
