Free agent guard Bryce McGowens has signed a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported. McGowens, 22, spent last season on a two-way contract with the Portland Trail Blazers.
McGowens’ playing time with the Trail Blazers was limited in his lone season with the franchise. The 6-foot-7 guard averaged just 2.5 minutes per game in 13 appearances. However, he was heavily featured as a prolific scorer on the Blazers’ G League affiliate, the Rip City Remix.
McGowens led
the G League in scoring with 29.3 points per game, to go along with 4.1 assists and 3.3 rebounds. The production earned him a place on the All-NBA G League Second Team and a spot on the G League’s Rising Stars team at NBA All-Star Weekend. At the event, he hit the game-winning 3-pointer in a semifinal game against Blazers teammate Toumani Camara’s team. McGowens’ season ended after he suffered a right rib fracture in the Remix’s loss to the Sioux Falls Skyforce on March 24.
Before joining the Blazers, McGowens spent two seasons with the Charlotte Hornets. The Minnesota Timberwolves originally drafted McGowens with the No. 40 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, but moved him to Charlotte in a draft-night deal.
McGowens will be entering his fourth NBA season in New Orleans.
