Newcastle United have submitted an improved offer to RB Leipzig for striker Benjamin Sesko as the club pushes to secure Alexander Isak’s replacement before greenlighting a potential record sale of the Sweden international, according to reports emerging on Monday.

After seeing their first €75million-plus-add-ons bid rejected, Newcastle returned with a revised package starting at €80m. While Manchester United also want Sesko, no formal bid has arrived from Old Trafford, and Newcastle remain the only

club with a concrete offer on the table.

Talks have intensified this week, with Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben reportedly meeting Leipzig and Sesko’s representatives over the weekend.

According to German outlet BILD, the 22-year-old Slovenian has told both clubs he’s open to joining them, although sources say he may slightly favor the project at St James’ Park while doubting Man Utd’s financial commitment and prowess these days.

Newcastle have imposed a deadline on the situation, pressing Sesko for clarity before the Premier League opener against Aston Villa next Saturday. Without a clear decision, the club may be forced to move on to other striker targets such as PSG’s Goncalo Ramos. It’s been reported that Newcastle set the deadline for Monday night, with an update expected shortly.

Sesko scored 21 goals for Leipzig last season and has 16 in 41 caps for Slovenia. Despite a contract running through 2029, Leipzig are expected to let him leave if their valuation is met and the striker commits to a preferred destination, as part of a “gentlemen’s agreement” included in his deal.

Meanwhile, Isak, who wants to join Liverpool, returned to training with Newcastle on Monday and is waiting for Liverpool to submit a second and improved bid for his services to Newcastle.

The Magpies already rejected a £110m bid from the Premier League champions last week and will not consider a sale until a successor is lined up.
