The All-Star break could not have come at a better time for the Nationals. They were a sinking ship that desperately needed time to find their bearings. Between the draft and the firings, most of the Nats fans attention has not been on the team on the field. That will change as they are back in tonight against the Padres.
The Nats will roll out a familiar lineup as they start the second half. CJ Abrams and James Wood make up a dynamic one-two punch at the top of the order. However, the rest of the lineup has
been inconsistent at best. Rookies Brady House and Daylen Lile will be in action to start the second half. Michael Soroka will take the ball for the Nats.

The last time Dylan Cease was in Nationals Park, he threw a no-hitter. However, the free agent to be has not had the season he would have hoped for. The top 7 hitters in the Padres lineup are one of the best top 7’s in the league. Left fielder Gavin Sheets has really found a home in San Diego. We know how dynamic the likes of Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jackson Merrill can be.

The Nationals put together a miserable first half of the season. Despite elite performances from Wood, Abrams and Gore, the team is still not winning. They are on pace to win 64 games this season, which is a step back. However, a solid second half could bring some optimism to a beaten down fanbase.
