What's Happening?
On July 24, 2025, the Government of Mexico held an institutional gathering at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) where two significant agreements were signed to bolster national agrifood systems and international cooperation in the rural sector. The International Cooperation Agreement between the SRE and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRICULTURA), along with the Specific Cooperation Agreement between the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) and CIMMYT, were established. These agreements aim to implement the project 'Advancing Towards Integrated Agrifood Innovation Systems in Mexico,' focusing on strengthening technical capacities in rural areas to achieve food self-sufficiency. The initiative includes training, technical support, and knowledge transfer within rural communities, addressing national priorities and global challenges such as climate change and food supply chain disruptions.

These steps are expected to foster significant progress in aligning diplomacy and agriculture, enhancing Mexico's agrifood systems, and promoting sustainable rural development.
