Mount Carmel High School, a dominant force in Illinois high school football, is gearing up for what could be its most successful season yet. The team, known as the Caravan, has won 16 state championships and is aiming for its 17th title. This year, Mount Carmel boasts eight players who have received offers from Power 5 college programs, including defensive players Joey Quinn, Roman Igwebuike, Braeden Jones, Tavares Harrington, and Caleb Tucker, as well as offensive players Quentin Burrell, Marshaun Thornton, and Claude Mpouma. Three of these players have already committed to colleges: Quinn to Vanderbilt, Jones to Southern Cal, and Mpouma to Nebraska. The team is led by first-year starting quarterback Emmett Dowling, who has a family legacy at Mount Carmel. The Caravan will compete in Class 8A this season, starting with a game against Cincinnati Moeller on August 30.
