Andrija Jelavic set to join Kentucky Basketball team this weekend

Finally, Andrija Jelavic will soon be joining the Kentucky basketball.

After weeks of rumors and uncertainty as to when the Croatian big man would arrive in Lexington, head coach Mark Pope announced Thursday that Jelavic will join the school this weekend. KSR’s Jack Pilgrim broke the story earlier before Pope confirmed the news during an interview with Matt Norlander.

The 6-foot-11 Jelavic will come to Kentucky as a 21-year-old international forward with plenty of professional experience, most recently

playing for Mega Superbet in the Adriatic League. He averaged 11 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.0 steals per game this past season.

He also played at the 2022 U18 Euro Championships for Croatia, where he averaged 11.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.

Looking ahead, Jelavic will bring some much-needed depth to a Kentucky frontcourt that’s still waiting on Jayden Quaintance to fully recover from ACL surgery and for Brandon Garrison to take the next step in his development.
