Newcastle United have made an informal approach for Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz as part of their ongoing search for attacking reinforcements.

According to Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, intermediaries have initiated early conversations, and a £40 million fee has been floated.

Muniz, 23, scored nine Premier League goals for Fulham last season and is being monitored by several top-flight clubs, according to Hope. While Newcastle have yet to enter formal negotiations, the urgency to sign a new striker is obvious,

given Alexander Isak’s likely departure, and that should accelerate the process.

Newcastle lost 1–0 to a K-League All-Star XI in Suwon on Wednesday, marking the third straight preseason game in which Will Osula started up front and failed to score. Anthony Gordon later filled the No. 9 role as Eddie Howe’s side again lacked a cutting edge.

In addition to Muniz, Newcastle remain in pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa. However, insiders now believe Sesko is likely to join Manchester United while Brentford won’t lower their valuation of Wissa, making a reasonable transfer quite hard to complete.

Because of those two situations, Newcastle might increase efforts to land Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins, who remains on their shortlist along with Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, although those two might be too pricey to acquire.
