Ahead of this afternoon’s game against the Reds, the Mets recalled right-handed reliever Kevin Herget and, in a corresponding move, optioned left-hander Brandon Waddell to Triple-A Syracuse.
Herget, a Bergen County, New Jersey native, is on his third stint with a big-league club this season, having pitched in one game on April 29th and another on July 1st for the Braves, for whom he was briefly a member, having been claimed off waivers in May before electing free agency and signing again with the Mets.
Over three big league innings this season, Herget has thrown three innings, given up two earned runs, walked two and struck out one.
Waddell has made the Syracuse to Queens trip a number of times this season, appearing in ten games for the big league club, tossing 27 innings and putting up a 4.00 ERA.
The carousel of Mets pitching will likely continue until the trading deadline where, hopefully, there will be a steadier pitching staff than the Mets have seen thus far in the 2025 season.
