Liverpool’s new number nine and the club’s next big signing of the 2025 summer transfer window appears almost certain to be Eintracht Frankfurt 23-year-old French international Hugo Ekitike after a frantic 24 hours of transfer developments.

The headlining news is that widespread reports breaking over the past hour have Ekitike and the Reds quickly agreeing personal terms on what is expected to be a six-year contract, with Liverpool further said to be determined to get the transfer done by the weekend.

This follows weeks of back and forth between Newcastle and Frankfurt over the player and heavy interest from Chelsea early in the summer that in the end didn’t amount to anything. In both cases, Frankfurt were at the time cast as the stumbling block.

However, in those earlier cases there was never any hint of Ekitike pushing for the move—and certainly nothing like today’s reports of personal terms being agreed and the player only wanting Liverpool. Because not gonna lie, that one’s always nice.

Liverpool are now in formal talks with Frankfurt, with whom the Reds are said to have a strong pre-existing relationship, and while a verbal proposal of around £70M has been rejected there is an expectation a deal could be done for around £75-80M.
