What's Happening?
Lucid Motors has announced that owners of its Lucid Air sedan will be able to charge their vehicles at Tesla Supercharger stations across North America starting July 31. This development comes nearly two years after Lucid and Tesla reached an agreement. However, Lucid Air vehicles will charge at a reduced rate of 50 kW, significantly lower than the 250 kW peak rate offered by Tesla Superchargers. The reduced charging speed is due to a mismatch between Lucid's 924-volt charging system and Tesla's 400V Superchargers. Lucid has adapted its integrated charging system, known as Wunderbox, to enable this charging capability. The adapter required for this access will cost $220. Lucid's move follows other automakers like Ford, GM, and Hyundai, who have also integrated Tesla's North America Charging Standard (NACS) into their future EV models.
