The device, created by Cytecom, uses a novel method to test antibiotics by exposing bacteria to them and then applying an electric shock. This process, which utilizes a fluorescent dye to indicate bacterial survival, significantly reduces the time required to determine antibiotic effectiveness from days to minutes. The technology is currently in pre-clinical testing in collaboration with the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
