Hansi Flick has been asked about the captaincy at Barcelona amid speculation that Marc-Andre ter Stegen could lose the armband.
There’s been talk that some at Barcelona want Ter Stegen stripped of the captaincy due to the current issues surrounding the goalkeeper.
Ter Stegen has also been ruled out for the long term, after undergoing back surgery, and it’s unclear right now when he will return.
However, Flick says it’s up to the dressing room to decide who will lead the team for the new campaign.
“The
team is always the one who decides the captains, as has been done in the past. Usually two weeks before the start of the season,” he told reporters.
Barcelona announced their new captains at the end of August last year, with Ter Stegen taking over the armband from Sergi Roberto.
Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong moved up to second and third captains, while Raphinha and Pedri joined the group for the first time.
