Barcelona undertook their first pre-season training session ahead of the 2025-26 campaign on Monday and there was a very notable absentee.
Captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen - who has been linked with a move away following the arrival of Joan Garcia - was not with the first-team squad as Hansi Flick put his players through their paces.
So where was he? Gerard Romero was quick with an answer, posting on X that Ter Stegen was working alone in the gym, adding “no injury, no statement...”
The update came just
hours after a new report from Cadena SER detailing there is indeed “tension” at Barcelona following Ter Stegen’s return.
Flick has told Ter Stegen he won’t be a starter, while the Germany international has responded by saying he wants to stay and fight for his place.
The report does add that Ter Stegen’s agent is “already looking for a team for him in case he changes his mind” - pointing out there’s a World Cup next year and the stopper needs to be playing if he’s to feature at the tournament for Germany.
