I wonder if those changes have left a Dot on you
Like all the burnin’ hoops of fire that you and I passed through
- Husky Women’s Basketball continued its march to March on Sunday with a dramatic OT win over Wisconsin in Madison. The Dawgs scored the last four points in regulation to send the game into the extra period, then went ahead for good in the last minute of OT. Avery Howell played her best game of the year with 34 points and 14 rebounds on 12/19 shooting. In their last five games, the Dawgs play away against top 10 teams in Iowa and UCLA (who pulled off a huge win against Michigan this weekend), but they also play three teams below them in the Big 10 standings.
- Due to the Demond Williams (non-)transfer saga, we have heard far more about contracts and buyouts this winter than we would have likely preferred. However, Christian Caple managed to post an informative story on the contract terms for the UW Football coaching staff over the weekend. Almost all of the Dawgs’ assistants are under contract for two more seasons and would owe sizable buyouts to leave UW before the end of that term. The contracts also require any assistant who leaves UW to refrain from recruiting any players they had been recruiting while with the Huskies, though I’m not sure that provision would be enforceable.
- Husky Softball opened the season with a very tough weekend in San Antonio. In four games, the Dawgs played three teams ranked in the top 10 nationally. Even at 2-2, the #25 Huskies have to feel pretty good about hanging close with #9 Nebraska on Friday and #1 Texas. They blew out UTSA 17-0 in their one easier game and capped the weekend with an upset victory over Nebraska in the rematch.
- The Husky Men’s Basketball team put in a good effort in a road loss to UCLA, but came up just short. Danny Sprinkle’s comments after the game had a similar sentiment. He was proud of the effort in a tough environment, but frustrated that the improvements over the course of the season have not translated into winning games against the better teams in the Big 10.
