Anthony Santander still isn’t swinging the bat yet. He’s coming to Toronto to have the medical staff look at him.
Ryan Burr is undergoing shoulder surgery and won’t return this season. He has a ‘capsular injury’.
Bowden Francis is being ‘shut down’, he’s had some discomfort. I think he’s a long way off from pitching for us again.
Daulton Varsho will play three to five innings
in the outfield for Dunedin. They say he’s to play 5-8 games before they call him up.
Yimi Garcia has an ulnar nerve issue in his right elbow, as well as recovering from a twisted ankle.
Rob Longley, in the Sun, tells us that ratings on Jays games are way up. Winning will do that, I know when the Jays are getting popular when everyone I see wants to talk to me about them.
For the season, Sportsnet is averaging 679,000 viewers for its Blue Jays broadcasts, a nice eight per cent bump from last year’s numbers, with a total reach of 11.3 million Canadians.
Eight of the last 12 Jays games heading into the midsummer hiatus attracted audiences of more than a million viewers, a sure sign of the momentum at play. Of note, the number could have been higher given a couple of late starts in the Pacific time zone on the Jays last road trip.
The starters for the first series:
Tonight: Chris Bassitt
Saturday: Eric Lauer
Sunday: Jose Berrios
We get to see some old friends in this series. Robbie Ray, Jordan Hicks, Matt Gage and Matt Chapman.
