Here’s the question of the day:
Listen, the question has crossed your mind at least once already. The likelihood that Schwarber is leaving, based on the comments from the owner himself this weekend, is probably diminishing all the time. The team wants him here, the owner wants him here and
their biggest star wants him here. Signing Kyle Schwarber this offseason is probably at the very top of their offseason shopping list.
But this is a hitter that has become an all around good hitter, not just the lumbering slugger that is a liability against same sided pitching. He’s a DH only now, capable of playing in the field a few times a season, but cannot be counted on to provide consistent playing time in left field with any kind of regularity. That will limit his market to teams that don’t mind tying up the DH spot on a full time basis.
Will there be a team that ponies up enough dough that even the Phillies take a pause? It’s definitely possible, but at least one of those teams that have spending power greater than the Phillies, the Dodgers, have their DH spot sewn up for a while. That helps things. Yet other teams might see the power and run scoring ability Schwarber brings and decide that in a league where run scoring is getting harder and harder, they might want a bit of that for themselves.
