“The Diamond” is a legend in every sense of the word, even if he never claimed an undisputed UFC championship. In hindsight, that omission hardly matters—he was one of the UFC’s most electrifying
warriors.
He is tied for the most “Fight of the Night” bonuses (10), tied with Drew Dober for most knockouts in Lightweight history (9), tied for the fifth-most finishes in UFC history with 15, and delivered five “Fight of the Year” contenders.
Poirier challenged for the Lightweight title three times. He won the interim UFC Lightweight title against Holloway at UFC 236 but fell short of unifying the belt against Khabib Nurmagomedov. After knocking out Conor McGregor twice (watch highlights), Poirier earned another title shot against Charles Oliveira, only to be submitted in the third round.
His final title opportunity came against Islam Makhachev. Though he didn’t win, Poirier is one of only two fighters to go five rounds with the dominant champion.
Poirier’s release from the UFC hit fight fans hard, stirring heartfelt reactions across the community.
Still doesn’t even feel real tbh. Probaly goes down as the greatest to never touch undisputed as far as resume/career accomplishments
