Fresh off of one of the nuttier trade deadlines in recent history, the Colorado Rockies head back to work as they host the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first of a three-game set.

Andrew Heaney (5-9, 4.79 ERA) will get the start for the Buccos. His last two starts have shown just how unpredictable the game of baseball can be, as his most recent outing saw him toss five innings of two-hit, shutout ball against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The start before? Seven earned runs in four frames against the Chicago

White Sox. That’s baseball!

This will be Heaney’s eight game, and seventh start, against the Rockies, against whom he owns a record of 3-1 and a 3.27 ERA. The journeyman left-hander last faced Colorado in May of ‘24, in which he allowed two runs in five innings of work. One of those runs came by way of a Hunter Goodman homer.

Colorado counters with Antonio Senzatela (4-14, 6.68 ERA), who is still trying to get things right this season. His last start was his roughest in a minute as he was jumped by the Baltimore Orioles offense for six runs in four innings en route to a loss better left forgotten.

Still, he can right the ship tonight with a strong performance against Pittsburgh, a team that he’s historically struggled against (12.75 ERA in four appearances).

The Pirates enter the game without Ke’Bryan Hayes, who was shipped to Cincinnati at the deadline, and David Bednar, the newest New York Yankee.

Speaking of relievers traded to the Yanks, Colorado now enters their post-Jake Bird era. To replace him and the departed Tyler Kinley, the Rockies have called up Dugan Darnell and Carson Palmquist.
