WHAT'S THE STORY?

Seven years after the inaugural edition, WWE held its second Evolution all-women’s wrestling event last night (July 13) in Atlanta. At the end of the company’s post-show press conference, Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque was asked if the show will be a part of WWE’s regular annual schedule going forward.

Here was his response:

“I don’t want to say it’s yearly, it’s not yearly. I think we see what that demand is for it. Because as the demand for the women grows across the board every day,

it becomes less about having their own show and more about… the equality, it’s all there. They don’t have to have their show to be in the spotlight. But if it works, we’ll definitely go down that road again. It’s a ‘we shall see.’

“I don’t know if it has to be a particular night for them to be inspired by the women, because I think the women do that every single Monday, Tuesday, Friday, whenever we have a PLE, wherever we’re having a Saturday Night’s Main Event. They’re role models, they’re inspiring people, they’re changing their lives. That sounds dramatic to some degree, but that is the kind of thing they do.”

There was criticism from fans and pundits that this year’s Evolution was hastily built and booked for a less-than-ideal spot on the calendar so that WWE could counterprogram AEW’s All In Texas weekend. Those issues were apparently shared by at least some in the company’s women’s locker room.

In the end, given the spotlight at the end of a packed weekend of wrestling, the women of WWE went out and did their damnedest to top everything that preceded them.

We’ll see if Triple H and team think it created enough demand for a third Evolution, or if the women of WWE will have to keep inspiring people with the time they get the rest of the year.
