Grayson Waller drops ‘dead weight,’ but still can’t pick up a win

WHAT'S THE STORY?

Grayson Waller showed up to Monday Night Raw this week looking like he’s in the best shape of his life. On social media, the Australian blowhard touted his gains while casually dismissing his losses, snidely referencing his split with Austin Theory.

“Best shape of my life — funny what dropping 220 lbs of dead weight can do,” said Waller on X.

There’s no denying that Waller looks great. Too bad

the same can’t be said for his win-loss record.

Since revealing to the world that he was done teaming with Theory, Waller is 0-2 in recent outings. Last week, he lost to Penta on Main Event. This past Monday on Raw, he looked like a complete boob in a loss to Sheamus.

As Sheamus prepared to deliver his signature Brogue Kick, Rusev — the man Sheamus is beefing with — came to ringside. He tried to interfere in the match, but Sheamus dropped him with a clothesline. That gave Waller an opening for a cheap roll-up. But Sheamus kicked out, popped to his feet, and drilled him with the Brogue Kick for the win.

In recent months, outside interference has been rampant across WWE’s weekly programming and premium live events. For what this match was, Rusev’s interference added nothing. It only made Waller look incredibly weak for failing to capitalize on the distraction. The money was in the post-match angle as Rusev punished Sheamus, setting up another match between them for next Monday’s SummerSlam fallout edition of Raw.

As for Theory, WWE teased a breakup between him and Waller for more than a year. But instead of a big blowout, A-Town Down Under quietly fizzled when Waller told the New Day that Theory was injured — and that they were done. For many fans, the team’s dissolution was anticlimactic.

Another way to look at it: Waller didn’t even have the guts to ambush Theory from behind. Didn’t even break up with him over the phone. He simply told a couple of guys who he thinks are his friends, with the luxury of distance between him and his now-former BFF.

That’s as gutless as it gets. And as someone who roots for villains, even I can’t get with that.

Nevertheless, a match between Waller and Theory seems inevitable. But between now and then, WWE needs to give Waller some wins — even if they’re cheap — just to make Theory’s potential victory feel like some sort of accomplishment.
