Arsenal have signed the 24-year old goalkeeper Anneke Borbe. Borbe, a former U-23 Germany international, left VfL Wolfsburg on the expiration of her contract. She made 10 appearances in the Bundesliga, becoming Wolfsburg’s first choice goalkeeper at the end of the 2024-25 season. She also made 3 appearances in the Champions League last season, where she conceded 11 goals, including 10 against Barcelona in two games—whereas Daphne van Domselaar conceded 0 goals in the Champions League final, which
Arsenal won to win the Champions League for a second time. Borbe fared better in the Frauen Bundesliga, conceding 8 goals and keeping 4 clean sheets.
Manu Zinsberger, the previous #1 and backup last season, is widely expected to leave the club after losing her position to Van Domselaar. Borbe will become the backup for Van Domselaar.
Speaking to Arsenal.com, Borbe said, “I’m really proud to join this amazing club. It’s amazing to have the opportunity to come and be a part of Arsenal at such an exciting time.”
Head coach Renée Slegers said, “We’re delighted to bring Anneke to the club. We’ve been impressed by her composure and aerial presence and we believe she has a high ceiling for development here.”
