Everton’s need for a right winger has been pressing for some time now. In transfer windows past they have taken cursory glances at meaningful players and made perfunctory moves for mediocre players, primarily dictated by the empty coffers at Finch Farm.

Bar the gaping vacancy at right back, there isn’t a position of need as critical to the club’s prospects this coming season as the right wing berth in the starting XI.

summer transfer window with the Friedkin Group having taken over and the Toffees having newfound money to spend.

First there was on-again, off-again chatter about Ben Doak (Liverpool, loaned to Middlesbrough) and Tom Fellows (West Bromwich Albion), both who excelled in the Championship last term. Given that both would command the homegrown premium, that interest reportedly quickly faded away.

But then the Blues were seriously being linked with Manchester City’s James McAtee who ticks most boxes, including the somewhat problematic #10 role for Moyes. However, it seems despite Pep Guardiola’s insistence on reducing his squad size, City will not drop their valuation of McAtee, comparing him to Chelsea’s runaway success Cole Palmer.

Another City player has also been linked with a move away, with Jack Grealish reportedly not part of Pep’s plans. However, since there’s no way on earth the Toffees can actually afford Grealish’s (reported) £300,000 per week wages, unless some sort of loan deal can be worked out with his parent club paying at least 2/3rds of his wages.

Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo is another whose name keeps coming up but then there was confirmation that Moyes was casting his gaze at the continent, with Olympique Lyon’s Malick Fofana. The Toffees apparently already have an agreement with the club, but it appears the player himself is holding out for a club that could offer him Champions League football.

Earlier on Thursday, reliable Times reporter Paul Joyce disclosed that the Toffees had had a £27 million bid for Tyler Dibling turned down by Southampton. Tyler-Jay Robert Dibling has been catching the eye for some time now, with the Saints’ 19-year-old winger attracting attention for his skill and tenacity on the ball.

The report card on the winger is impressive - his dribbling ability and close control are strengths, as are his vision and passing range. His physical presence and strength mean he does not get bullied off the ball easily.

Joyce went on to add that that a £35m bid would likely be enough to seal the deal, but it remains to be seen if Everton will come back with another bid or likely move down to the next name on their not-so-shortlist for right winger.

Aston Villa, Fulham, and West Ham are said to be lying in wait with the Saints previously indicating they would be looking for over £40m, having previously valued the youngster at £100m!
