Weeks six and seven began to shape the tournament, with key results and standout performances. The intensity and competitiveness shown in the past two weeks set the stage for a decisive stretch ahead.
Rayadas de Monterrey are in a steady ascent
After Amandine Miquel’s Rayadas took down Santos convincingly in week six 5-1 on the road, they continued their quest against Tijuana. And once again, they got the job done. They now have scored seven tallies in their past two matches. Miquel’s side are finding thire way towards dominating the league especially after Monterrey lost its way last year.
Finalizing week 7, they’re at the top of the table along with Chivas de Guadalajara – both clubs have 19 points.
A draw in “La Bella Airosa”
A highly anticipated match between Pachuca and Tigres happened in week 6. Tuzas’ Nina Nicosia opened the score and Charlyn Corral scored from the penalty spot.
When everything looked like the hosts were going to get the three points, Diana Ordóñez took advantage of Esthefanny Barreras’ mistake in goal to pull one back. A brace by Ordóñez in the dying minutes allowed Tigres to salvage a point on the road.
Chivas win and now they’re at the top
Even though Guadalajara doesn’t have the firepower of other teams’ forward lines, its solid defense is playing a big role in its season. Only two goals against in seven games is doing wonders for Chivas. That and, of course, the five consecutive wins. So far, they have collected only one draw and six wins, including the last ones against León (3-1) and Necaxa (2-0).
Charlyn Corral and Diana Ordóñez lead the Golden Boot race
Even though Eugénie Le Sommer is getting most of the attention due to her impressive performances and screamers, Pachuca’s Charlyn Corral and Tigres’ Diana Ordóñez are tied for most goals scored so far.
Ordóñez scored a brace in the game against Cruz Azul in week 7, while Corral tallied one goal in the 3-0 victory against Mazatlán. The nine goals scored by Corral are more than a third of the total Pachuca has tallied (25), and so far, they’re the team with the most goals in the tournament.
Club América slips
Although Scarlett Camberos opened the score in the 32nd minute, Juárez’s Dayana Martin found the equalizer after a terrible defensive mistake right before halftime.
This draw halted América’s winning momentum and caused coach Ángel Villacampa to express his frustration in the post-match press conference.
