Pre-Camp Breakdown: Evaluating the Chiefs Group of Defensive Backs | The Mothership
Glendon Miller
An undrafted free agent signee, the 6-foot-3, 207-pound Miller primarily lined up over the slot last season, recording 39 tackles, three interceptions and three tackles-for-loss. It was a strong exclamation point on a career that included seven total picks over the last two seasons.
He put together a great pro day, too, recording a 4.44-second 40-yard dash and a 38-inch vertical jump that would have ranked
ADfourth among all safeties at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Major Williams
A rookie from Carson-Newman University, Williams earned a contract with a successful tryout at Rookie Minicamp in May.
The 5-foot-11, 198-pound safety recorded 7.5 tackles-for-loss, six pass-breakups, a forced fumble and an interception in 12 games last season.

28. C CREED HUMPHREY, KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
Since entering the league in 2021, Humphrey has posted the most PFF WAR of any offensive lineman —not just centers or interior players. His yearly average nearly doubles the next closest center, Tyler Linderbaum. Humphrey has also earned a 95.1 run-blocking grade on zone-scheme runs during that span, making him a cornerstone of the Chiefs’ dominant front protecting Patrick Mahomes.
NFL over/under win totals: Predictions and best bets for all 32 teams in 2025 | The Athletic
AFC
Kansas City Chiefs under 11.5 (-120)
Hot take: The Chiefs are not going to go 11-0 in one-score games again this season. What’s more, their division keeps getting tougher and, holy Taylor Swift, the schedule … they open in Brazil, follow up with a Super Bowl rematch and also play Baltimore, Detroit, Washington and Buffalo in their first nine games. Five of their first eight games are on prime-time TV, and they also play on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Yes, Patrick Mahomes is too good for his own good. But the Chiefs got blown out in the Super Bowl because their offensive line got pushed backward and Andy Reid gave up on the running game. The jury is out if former 49ers backup Jaylon Moore and rookie Josh Simmons address the offensive line issue, but there is still enough talent on this team to cruise to 11 wins and save Travis Kelce’s legs for the playoffs.
Overlooked Rookie RBs Who Can Have a Major Impact on 2025 NFL Season | Bleacher Report
Brashard Smith, Kansas City Chiefs
When the Kansas City Chiefs traded Tyreek Hill to Miami Dolphins, the move forced Patrick Mahomes to become a better all-around quarterback...and he did.
Two more Super Bowl titles later, the Chiefs are now looking for ways to become more explosive after failing to three-peat, while taking some of the pressure off of Mahomes to be highly efficient while simultaneously serving as the scheme’s primary playmaker.
Brashard Smith may have been a seventh-round selection, but don’t let his draft standing dictate his potential in the Chiefs’ scheme. He had one full season as a collegiate RB and ran for 1,332 yards. He earned first-team All-ACC honors as a result.
“Judging from how he was utilized in offseason practices, the Chiefs have plans for Smith, a seventh-round draft pick out of SMU,” ESPN’s Adam Teicher reported.
“Smith was a wide receiver in college before moving to running back for his final season, and the Chiefs showcased his versatility by getting him the ball out of the backfield, from the slot and split out wide.”
Smith brings sub-4.4-second 40-yard-dash speed to the Chiefs offense. He can be used in and out of the backfield as a gadget player. Mainly, the rookie should be viewed as someone who can provide instant offense.
When Smith is on the field at the same time as Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown, opposing defenses won’t be able to key in on any of them since each is a threat to score every time they touch the ball.
5. Kansas City Chiefs (Avg: 5.4, High: 3, Low: 10)
QB: Patrick Mahomes, RB: Isiah Pacheco, WR: Rashee Rice
This is the lowest the Chiefs have ranked since Mahomes’ first season as the starter. They’ve were ninth prior to his debut, and have since checked in second, first, first, second, fourth, second and first before falling to fifth this season. If you ask me, it’s too low. People are ascribing a drop-off to the team that, in my opinion, was caused by offensive line play and injuries (to both Pacheco and the entire wide receiver corps). I think we see Kansas City get back to a more free-wheeling, wide-open offense this season and jump back near the top of the rankings a year from now.

Vikings’ Jordan Addison pleads to lesser charge in DUI case | ESPN
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison pleaded no contest Thursday to a lesser charge to resolve a 2024 DUI citation, his attorney said. The plea agreement, however, still leaves him subject to NFL discipline.
“We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review,” the NFL said in a statement Thursday.
According to attorney Jacqueline Sparagna, Addison will plead to what is colloquially known as a “wet reckless” charge. In California, where Addison was cited, that means he will plead no contest to reckless driving with the involvement of alcohol. Addison will be placed on probation for 12 months, pay a $390 fine and complete two online courses.
In a statement, Sparagna said: “While Mr. Addison’s case would have made for a great trial, I admire him for taking responsibility by accepting the city attorney’s ‘wet reckless’ offer. Now he can put this incident behind him and solely focus on his promising career.”
Steelers, T.J. Watt agree to terms on record three-year, $123 million extension | NFL.com
The four-time All-Pro edge rusher and 2021 Defensive Player of the Year has agreed to a three-year, $123 million extension with Pittsburgh that makes him the highest-paid defender in the league, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Thursday.
At $41 million per year, Watt’s deal sneaks past Myles Garrett’s record-setting four-year, $160 million deal agreed upon in March and resets the edge-rusher market for the third time in 2025. Watt also leap frogs Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase’s $40.3 million average for the title of highest-paid non-QB.
Watt’s place in the Steelers organization cannot be understated. He’s earned a Pro Bowl nod in each of the last seven seasons, landed All-Pro honors in five of the last six campaigns and is a mainstay in the race for Defensive Player of the Year, often alongside Garrett. With 108 career sacks, 33 forced fumbles, 462 tackles (126 for loss) and seven interceptions, he’s cemented his standing as an elite defender deserving of a massive extension.
Chargers WR Mike Williams retiring after eight seasons in NFL | NFLcom
The veteran wide receiver informed the Chargers that he plans to retire after eight seasons this week, the team announced on Thursday.
The No. 7 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft walks away having compiled 5,104 yards and 32 touchdowns, including two campaigns over the 1,000-yard mark.
Williams, 30, dealt with injuries throughout his career, including missing the first six games of his rookie season due to a back issue. He played a full slate of games just twice in his career, in 2018 and 2024, when he participated in 18 regular-season games after a midseason trade from New York to Pittsburgh.

Chiefs’ Rashee Rice receives court sentence; NFL suspension unclear
FOX4: In exchange, he’ll serve five years of probation. He’ll be required to spend 30 days in the Dallas County jail as a condition of that probation. Restitution has also been made in advance to the victims. The plea agreement also resolves the six other cases related to the crash.
At the time of this writing, it is unclear when Rice will actually serve his month of jail time. Rice’s attorney, Royce West, released a statement on his behalf:
“Last March, I was involved in a high-speed accident in Dallas. There have been a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the damages that my actions caused, and I will continue working within my means to make sure that everyone impacted will be made whole. I urge everyone to mind the speed limit, drive safe and drive smart. Last and certainly not least, I am profoundly sorry for the physical damages to person and property. I fully apologize for the harm I caused to innocent drivers and their families.”
The NFL also shared a note when reached for comment:
“We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review,” NFL vice president of communications Brian McCarthy said in a statement.
The legal process concluding means the league is now expected to come down with a suspension for Rice’s personal conduct policy violation. Still, with little to no precedent on these matters, predicting its duration is difficult.
For reference, the Chiefs visit the Chargers (Brazil), host the Eagles, visit the Giants, host the Ravens, visit the Jaguars, host the Lions, host the Raiders and host the Commanders in their first eight games of the 2025 season.
