Alexander Isak’s contract negotiations with Newcastle United have become more complicated following reports of a £300,000-a-week wage demand and a photo appearing to show the striker training separately from the first-team squad.

According to talkSPORT, the 25-year-old is seeking more than double his current £120,000 weekly salary to remain at the club. Isak is under contract through 2028, but no agreement on new terms has been reached.

outlet reported. “The Swedish star is reportedly seeking £300,000-a-week to commit his future.”

Meeting those terms would break Newcastle’s current wage structure and perhaps not only that but also the armony within the locker room, potentially leading to a breakup in relationships and a sale.

On top of everything, this situation comes amid heavy interest from Liverpool and Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal, which might or might not mean Isak is leveraging that interest to try and squeeze every penny from NUFC, or just force the club’s hand into a sale.

Isak’s agent, Gonzalo Gaitan, added to the uncertainty earlier this week.

“We are indeed studying and analysing all options, and we may be close to finalising the next step for the player,” Gaitan told Arriyadiyah.

Isak was left out of Newcastle’s 4–0 friendly loss to Celtic, with manager Eddie Howe attributing the decision to ongoing speculation.

“I decided to send him home due to the speculation around him,” Howe said. “The last thing Alex wants... is to be sat in the stand and under that scrutiny.”
