Our long national nightmare has ended. The Dodgers went nearly three full months since their last save of three or more innings, but Justin Wrobleski rest the counter to zero on Friday by throwing zeroes against the Rays.
Armed with a five-run lead, Wrobleski entered in the seventh inning after Clayton Kershaw pitched six scoreless frames. Wrobleski retired nine of his 10 batters faced, striking out five of them to earn the save.

It’s Wrobleski’s second career save, after a one of the four-inning variety on the penultimate day of the regular season last year. He’s the third Dodger this year to record a save of three innings or more.
Yoendrys Gómez had a three-inning save against the Pirates on April 27, and Matt Sauer had a four-inning save on May 7 in Miami.
Ten different Dodgers have recorded saves this season, tied with Arizona for most in the majors. Last season the Dodgers tied a major league record with 14 pitchers with a save during the regular season, then added a 15th when Walker Buehler got the final three outs in Game 5 of the World Series.
This season, there have been 31 major league saves of at least three innings, by 26 different pitchers. Aaron Ashby of the Brewers, Anthony DeSclafani of the D-backs, Dane Dunning of the Rangers, Brant Hurter of the Tigers, and Jack Perkins of the A’s each have two such saves this year.
Of that group, Sauer, Paul Blackburn, Tom Harrington, Steven Matz, and Tyler Phillips had a four-inning save.
Marlins right-hander Janson Junk on May 24 and Phillies righty Alan Rangerl on June 27 did them one better, each recording a five-inning save. There are only 14 saves of at least five innings since saves became an official statistic in 1969. The lone Dodger of this group is Charlie Hough, who turned the trick in 1970.
