The Linc - Jalyx Hunt “is going to be really, really good”

WHAT'S THE STORY?

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Roob’s Eagles Observations: A new twist that should pay big dividends on offense - NBCSP 5. There’s been so much hype this summer around Jalyx Hunt, and Dave Zangaro wrote Friday about how impressed some of his teammates have been with the second-year edge rusher. I’m seriously bullish on Hunt. I’ve got him down for eight to 10 sacks and I wouldn’t be shocked if he goes over that. He’s so strong and quick and athletic and he’s already come so far so fast,

his ceiling is unlimited. I just can’t get over the fact that this kid began his college career as an Ivy League safety at Cornell in 2019 and was still playing safety at Cornell as recently as 2021. His first year as an edge was 2022, when he resurfaced at Houston Baptist (now Houston Christian). I mean, to be at the level he’s at now – starting for the Super Bowl champs – when he was a safety four years ago is absurd. He was drafted as a project, but he’s anything but. He’s going to be really, really good.

Eagles Training Camp Practice Notes: Jihaad Campbell sees some first-team reps - BGN
JIHAAD CAMPBELL RISING: For the first time this summer, the Eagles’ 2025 first-round pick rotated in with the first-team defense. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. still took the majority of reps next to Zack Baun but Campbell’s stock is apparently rising. Speaking after practice, Campbell said that he’ll be able to participate in the Eagles’ first padded practice on Tuesday.

Deep diving into the Philadelphia Eagles with Brandon Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation - CBS Philadelphia
On this week’s Gallen of Questions, Brandon Gowton, of Bleeding Green Nation, joins Pat Gallen to discuss all things Philadelphia Eagles as training camp is underway.

Eagles mailbag: If Zack Baun and Jihaad Campbell play well, where does that leave Nakobe Dean? - PhillyVoice
Question from @JackDespeaux: Assuming Campbell wins the LB job, what becomes Nakobe Dean’s role on the team? I think the more interesting question for the linebacker position isn’t so much who will start Week 1 (again, I’m pretty convinced it’ll be Campbell), but rather how Dean fits in whenever he is able to return to the field. And I guess my answer to that is... I don’t know. But then also, how does Dean fit in, long-term? Baun is under contract through 2027. Campbell is under contract through at least the next four seasons, plus a fifth-year option. Dean is going to want to start after his productive 2024 season, but if Baun and Campbell ball out this season, that opportunity might not be with the Eagles in 2026 and beyond. Add in that the Eagles also may have good, young depth in Trotter and Smael Mondon, and I think it’s hard to see Dean with the team next year.

Consistency - Iggles Blitz
Sydney Brown has the talent to be a good starting safety. He’s got to play more under control. Brown loves to fly around the field and attack. That’s great on STs. It isn’t as great at safety. That’s a position that requires more thought and discipline. You must be able to diagnose plays and get to the right spot. If you’re out of control, the offense will burn you. If Brown can play under control more consistently, he has a chance to win a starting job, or even force Fangio to use 3-safety sets more often. We know not all of these guys will pan out as hoped. That’s just the reality of pro football. Let’s just hope a few of them do so the Eagles have the kind of quality depth you need to contend for a title.

2025 Philadelphia Eagles training camp: Latest intel, updates - ESPN
If you’re looking for an Eagles player who could make a leap this season, keep a close eye on defensive tackle Moro Ojomo. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio will lean on the third-year player to help replace the production of Milton Williams and has to be encouraged by what’s seen to this point. Ojomo spent a good chunk of Saturday’s practice in the backfield applying pressure on quarterback Jalen Hurts while working primarily against right guard Tyler Steen. He registered a “sack” on Hurts and later batted down one of his passes. Philadelphia hasn’t put on pads yet, so no need to get carried away, but there was a lot of buzz around Ojomo internally this offseason and his performance has done nothing to quiet it.

Eagles Training Camp Daily Updates: Sydney Brown on safety battle, ‘I love the competition’ - PE.com
This is an open battle and that suits Sydney Brown just fine. The Eagles are rotating a handful of players through the safety position next to Reed Blankenship in the early days of Training Camp and Brown, the third-year player who has been so dynamic on special teams in his first two seasons – is one of those guys. Perfect. “I love the competition,” he said. “That’s what I’m here for and that’s what this league is all about. It’s good for all of us.”

Eagles’ pitch for a new stadium should be squashed immediately - NJ.com
The Linc has hosted major soccer events and will again next year during the World Cup. Wrestlemania was here in 2024. Hopefully at some point Lurie and the Eagles will come to their senses and realize that the Linc is an outstanding home for the team and their fans and doesn’t need to be the rare host to other big events. Since the Eagles moved into the Linc, they’ve gone 107-69-1 during the regular season and 11-4 in the postseason. The Eagles have won four NFC Championship games there and twice gone on to win the Super Bowl. The Linc has been a special place for the Eagles and the fact that it doesn’t have a roof is a huge part of the charm. Fans will welcome a renovation. They would despise a demolition.

WR Terry McLaurin has reported to Washington Commanders training camp ending his contract hold out - Hogs Haven
Today is the 4th day of Commanders training camp. In the pre-practice press conference, Dan Quinn announced that veteran wide receiver Terry McLaurin has reported to training camp despite not yet agreeing to terms on an extension with the Commanders front office. Quinn said that GM Adam Peters would continue to work towards an agreement on an extension with McLaurin, who is under contract through the end of the ‘25 season. [BLG Note: He’s holding in now after holding out.]

Cowboys RB’s Miles Sanders and Deuce Vaughn impress in first week of training camp - Blogging The Boys
One of the positions that will be heavily monitored throughout camp is the running back position. The team has added new faces to the running back room this offseason including Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders, and Jaydon Blue. While the players are still without full pads, one of the easiest positions to evaluate in shells is the running backs. Early returns show that Miles Sanders and Deuce Vaughn are making a case for roles in the regular season. Sanders, now 28, and Vaughn, now 23, have a lot to prove heading into the 2025 season. Sanders has struggled since signing with the Carolina Panthers in free agency and Vaughn has struggled to carry any momentum over into the regular season in very limited opportunities. But so far so good for Sanders and Vaughn who are in a tight competition to earn reps at the running back position for Brian Schottenheimer’s offense.

New Cowboys CB Kaiir Elam highlights camp with interception, child-hoisting celebration - NFL.com
So far so great in Kaiir Elam’s fresh start. A 2022 NFL Draft first-round selection of the Buffalo Bills who was traded to the Dallas Cowboys this offseason, Elam has welcomed the change and embraced Matt Eberflus’ defense. It came through Saturday at training camp in Oxnard, California, with a sensational highlight and subsequent celebration. Elam picked off franchise quarterback Dak Prescott and swiftly took to the sideline where he hoisted a young Cowboys fan into the air, celebrating amid teammates in a Lion King-esque moment.

The 2025 Giants are not built to win now - Big Blue View
It’s easy to be optimistic at this time of year, when the New York Giants’ record is 0-0, there are three new quarterbacks on the team, including the hoped-for QB of the future, the pass rush could be ferocious, and the secondary may have plugged a couple of holes. There are legitimate questions about the futures of Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen if the team doesn’t have some success in 2025. Realistically, though, it would be a surprise if the Giants contended this season. Never say never - the Washington Commanders showed that last season. Washington’s schedule was pretty similar in difficulty to that of the Giants. Their only real advantage was getting to play the Giants twice, which of course the Giants didn’t get to do (though the Giants did often beat themselves last season - see the first Washington, Cincinnati, first Dallas, Carolina, and New Orleans games).

Looking at Christian Wilkins Contract Situation - Over The Cap
One of the more bizarre contract stories comes out of Las Vegas with the Raiders publicly announcing the release of DT Christian Wilkins from a $110 million contract with nearly $83 million in guarantees signed just a year ago. Wilkins had been injured last season and should have over $35 million in injury protection but the Raiders are voiding all guarantees in the contract due to issues with how he has treated his rehab process, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The union will file a grievance on Wilkins behalf to recover that money.

The UFL’s implosion is another opportunity for NFL minor leagues - SB Nation
Establishing a second professional football league in the United States really shouldn’t be this difficult, but here we are. The UFL, the latest, most-enthusiastic attempt to launch a second league in the USA is in turmoil this week after four teams, the entire USFL conference was shut down on Friday, with rumors about their future ranging from wholesale relocation, to complete cessation of operation.
