Maybe Better!
Well, the Sport Media Industry just really doesn’t have a ton to do in the deep part of the Summer months before Fall practice starts. That means finding something to write about, and in our case finding something encouraging to note, instead of the usual ‘observations’,
Phil Steele puts out some annual preseason lists and more often than not the Hokies are nowhere to be found on anything particularly hopeful. That pattern took a turn for the encouraging with this one, pushed out, today. Phil Steele ranks
Top 12 most improved teams in College Football for 2025.
It might be #12, and certainly the blurb under the explanation might sound like there’s a bit of desperation on the conclusion, but for someone who has a bank of knowledge and reporting sources and contacts that Steele has aggregated over the years, this one might just be the best news that Virginia Tech has gotten in a while.
More Post Season Award Watch Lists
It hasn’t hurt that we’ve got some solid players making various award watch lists. Bryan noted a few. And we also are seeing more watch list entries.
New Defensive Back Tyson Flowers is getting noticed.

and Linebacker Caleb Woodson is on the list for the prestigious Butkus Award.

The recognition of a real potential to add to the prestige of the program through individual effort is a really good thing.
However!
Steele’s recognition that this team is going to look different this season, and in a good way, is a much-needed motivational boost. Receiving notice for potentially being much improved is always a good thing.

Now to make that potential a reality Hokies!
We have the open practice schedule and have made the time available for a trip with cameras and some eyes to see a few drills and get some Summer photos for the new 2025 Season directory on the hard drive.
GO HOKIES!!!
