One of the greatest boxers ever, Manny Pacquiao, is ending his retirement nearly four years after his last fight to face current WBC Welterweight champion, Mario Barrios, later TONIGHT (Sat., July 19, 2025) in Las Vegas, Nevada, streaming live on Prime Video pay-per- view (PPV). In the co-main event, Sebastian Fundora

will defend his WBC Super Welterweight title against Tim Tszyu.

What’s Hot:

Many are wondering if Pacquiao — the former WBA, WBO and WBO International Welterweight champion — is returning to boxing

for a quick money-grab. After all, paydays these days in boxing are astronomical. “Pacman” was last seen losing to Yordenis Ugas back in Aug. 2021 via unanimous decision. Prior to that, however, Pacquiao had won three straight over Lucas Matthysse, Adrien Broner and Keith Thurman, so it’s not like he was completely washed prior to his decision to walk away. Pacquiao will turn 47 later this year, so one has to wonder if his age, coupled with his time off, will be too much for him to overcome inside the ring. After all, it’s not like he’s coming back for an exhibition fight against a journeyman. No, he is fighting one of the best in game at the moment.

Indeed, Barrios is 29-2-1 and is the current WBC Welterweight champion of the world. The 30 year-old his 18 wins by way of knockout, and has wins over Yordenis Ugás and Fabian Maidana, with his two losses coming at the hands of Gervonta Davis and Keith Thurman, two of the very best in the sport. Barrios will undoubtedly have youth on his side since he is 17 years younger than “Pacman,” and a power advantage to boot. Pacquiao dos look good in workouts, but whether or not the conditioning and cardio will transition into a real fight against a younger man remains to be seen. Barrios hits like a truck and has technique to go along with the power. If he tags the legend with a good shot, he can and will put him to sleep. With a win, Barrios will have the biggest name on his belt to date, but many will undoubtedly question the victory due to Manny’s age and time off. Nevertheless, Barrios has to do his job, and I think he will do it well come fight night.

Original Card vs. Actual Card:

Angel Fierro and Issac “Pitbull” Cruz were all set to run it back in a Super Lightweight fight rematch before Fierro was forced out of the fight the day of weigh ins as a result of a “dangerous” weight cut. Fierro defeated “Pitbull” earlier this year via unanimous decision in what proved to be one of the best fights of the year. Stepping in on super-short notice will be Omar Salcido, who is coming off a loss to Andy Cruz and has a record of 20-2 with 14 knockouts. While it is commendable of him to step in to fill the void, facing “Pitbull” on short notice is no easy task. To sweeten the pot, the bout will now be for the interim WBC Super Lightweight world title.

How The ‘Prelims’ Look:

Undefeated at 31-0-1 David Picasso battles Japanese contender Kyonosuke Kameda in a 10-round Super Bantamweight affair. Picasso has 17 knockouts on record, and the Mexican-born fighter has shown nothing but brilliance throughout his stellar run at age 24. Against Kameda, however, he faces a tough challenge. Kameda saw his nine-fight win streak go up in smoke in his last fight against Luis Nery, who knocked him out in the ninth round in Tijuana, Mexico.

Filipino knockout artist, Mark Magsayo will battle Jorge Mata — fighting out of Mexico — in a 10-round super featherweight fight in what will be opening fight of “prelims.” Magsayo has a record of 27-2 with 18 knockouts, packing a lot of power for his 126-pound frame. The orthodox 30-year old will be taking on a man who is six years younger than him and tends to fight in the southpaw position, though he has shown to change stances successfully. At 21-2-2, Mata has 13 knockouts on his resume.

Who Needs A Win Badly:

Former WBC Featherweight champion, Gary Russell Jr., returns after a three-year hiatus to face Hugo Castaneda in a 10-round Lightweight showdown. Russell Jr. was last seen losing to Mark Magsayo — who will also be fighting on the card — in Jan. 2022 via TKO. The loss snapped his seven-fight win streak and cost him his title. As for Castaneda, he is also coming off a TKO loss at the hands of Demler Zamora earlier this year, snapping his four-fight unbeaten streak. Castaneda has won 11 of his fights via knockout and fights in the orthodox stance. Both men are in desperate need of a win to prevent back-to-back losses.

Interest Level: 6.5/10

Sebastian Fundora will put up his WBC Super Welterweight title against a familiar foe in Tim Tszyu. “The Towering Inferno” defeated Tszyu in 2024 in what was an absolute bloodbath. Despite Tszyu giving Fundora all he could handle, the Australian born fighter came up short in his bid to dethrone him. Of his 22 wins, Fundora has earned 14 knockouts and has only one loss in his record. Tszyu coughed up his WBO light middleweight title against Fundora in defeat, and in return Fundora was stripped of the strap earlier this year for opting to rematch Tszyu instead of giving the mandatory challenger, Xander Zayas, his shot.

Brandon Figueroa coughed up his WBC Featherweight title in his last bout against Stephen Fulton earlier this year, and is out to get back on the winning track when he takes on Joet Gonzalez in main card action. Interestingly enough, Figueroa also lost his Super Bantamweight strap to Fulton three years earlier, the only two defeats of his career. While he would love nothing more than to perhaps lock down another fight against Fulton, he first has to take care of business again Gonzalez, who has alternated wins and losses for the last six years to the tune of a 4-4 run.
