Pete Alonso didn’t need to participate in this year’s Home Run Derby to send one out of Truist Park. Facing Royals starter Kris Bubic with two on and no outs in the bottom of the sixth inning of the All-Star Game, Alonso drilled a 2-1 fastball over the right field fence, giving the National League a commanding 5-0 lead.

With one swing, Alonso became the first Met ever to record three RBI in a single All-Star Game, and just the third — along with Lee Mazzilli and David Wright — to hit a homer in the midsummer

classic. After previously recording a two-RBI single back in the 2019 game, Alonso is also now the franchise’s all-time All-Star Game RBI leader with five.

Alonso continues to add to his impressive 2025 season, during which he’s hit .280/.376/.532. The Polar Bear currently sits in second place on the Mets’ all-time home run leaderboard, just six long balls from overtaking Darryl Strawberry for the franchise lead.

Alonso could be in line for one more distinction, as no Met has ever been awarded All-Star Game MVP. The past eight players to receive the honor have all recorded a home run, so if the National League hangs on to win, Alonso would appear to be the favorite.
