At this point, it is no surprise to come to the realization that Juventus and Douglas Luiz are in their final weeks or days of being associated with one another. That was probably the case before the Brazilian international didn’t show up for the start of preseason training, but it very much the case now that he is back with the squad and not getting called up for Juve’s first friendly of the summer.
So as the squad heads to Germany for the second portion of their preparations ahead of the 2025-26
season, the transfer chatter surrounding Douglas Luiz isn’t going to suddenly go away — for those very obvious and very understandable reasons.
According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira in Tuttosport on Friday, Douglas Luiz is starting to seriously consider the chance to return to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest, a club in which Juventus have already had plenty of discussions with regarding other players this summer. It’s obvious that Luiz wants to get back to England after all of the pre-Juve success he had with Aston Villa, and the idea is that returning to the Premier League is pretty much the only thing that he has in mind right now. As much as he wants to join one of England’s top clubs, Nottingham Forest will at least give him the chance to get back to the league in which he’s had his best years ... all of 12 months after coming to Serie A.

Schira has also reported that talks between Juventus and Forest have already begun, with things being an initial loan formula with an option to buy but could become an obligation under certain conditions. (That may not be all that hard to reach, for what it’s worth.)
Douglas Luiz, along with soon-to-be potential sales Timothy Weah and Arthur Melo, has been included in the traveling squad for Juventus’ preseason training camp in Germany ahead of their friendly next weekend against Borussia Dortmund. That had more to do with injury prevention more than anything else — especially when you consider that they haven’t been left at home while the rest of their teammates have headed to Germany for their preseason preparations.
After failing to report to the start of preseason camp two Thursdays ago, Luiz made his suddenly highly anticipated return to Turin at the beginning of this week. As Juve general manager Damien Comolli confirmed later in the week, Luiz apologized to both his teammates and coaches for his actions at the start of preseason training, adding: “The player disrespected his teammates. Everyone must respect the shirt they wear. He then apologised to everyone, players, coaches, and to me as well.”
