The Twins have traded off quite a few players on deadline day, including Carlos Correa heading back to Houston.
And one Twins player is coming to the Cubs:
Willi Castro to Cubs for prospects
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) July 31, 2025
Castro is a pending free agent, so this is a rental. He is batting .245/.335/.407 (74-for-302) with 10 home runs and nine stolen bases in 86 games for the Twins.
The key here is Castro’s versatility. He has played all three outfield positions and second base, shortstop and third base in Minnesota. This deal immediately
improves the Cubs bench. I would imagine this spells the end of Jon Berti’s time with the Cubs.
As of the time of this post, the prospects (and I assume they’re prospects) going back to the Twins have not been made public. When there’s news about the return to Minnesota, this post will be updated.
