NBA Summer League: Washington Wizards vs. Brooklyn Nets game information and discussion

WHAT'S THE STORY?

The Wizards tip off the second game of their 2025 Summer League against the Brooklyn Nets. Game tips two teams at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Wizards to Watch

  • Tre Johnson — Solid first outing. I want to see him add some non-scoring production.
  • Will Riley — Looks impossibly young to be on an NBA floor. Can he bounce back from a rocky debut and show more flashes?
  • Alex Sarr — Not an impressive start to the 2025 Summer League, despite some okay-looking numbers at the end. A couple of those buckets came late when the game was long decided. I want to see him come out and dominate for as long as he’s in the game at least once this summer.
  • Bub Carrington — Not great first outing, and I’m not even talking about the shooting. I want to see some drives and paint touches — the kinds of plays a starting guard should make.
  • Kyshawn George — Shot well, rebounded, and defended pretty well in the first game. He also had five turnovers and five fouls — a lot miscues if it was an NBA game.

Nets I’m Interested in Seeing

  • Egor Demin — Brooklyn chose him eighth overall. YODA had him as a second round pick. This will be my first opportunity to see what perhaps didn’t show up in the numbers.
  • Nolan Traore — Traore was the 19th pick in the draft. YODA ranked him in the 60s. Like Demin, I want to see what the scouts believe they saw.
  • Drake Powell — A hyper-athletic wing and YODA favorite.

What it all means

Mentioned this in the last game thread, but here’s this article from a few days ago. The TLDR is that some economists ran an analysis and found that better production in summer league predicted stronger performance in the following NBA regular season. Their actual analysis is worth your time.
