Day 9 of Cleveland Browns training camp took place Saturday morning. Here is our recap of the session.
Cleveland Browns Training Camp Report - Day 9 (8/2/25)
1. Early Morning Injury Precautions: Before practice, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that CB Greg Newsome, who landed funny on his shoulder after breaking up a pass on Friday, would sit out of today’s practice to rest it. He also said that DE Myles Garrett would be held out of practice as a precaution. Also, QB Kenny Pickett would continue to work in individual drills only.
2. Drill of the Day:
Who said he’s not a blocker? Here is a clip of TE Harold Fannin holding his own in a blocking drill against S Ronnie Hickman:

3. Basic Fun: I know it’s such a basic catch-and-throw, but we haven’t had a chance to mention TE David Njoku’s name this camp yet. Here’s a smooth completion to him from QB Joe Flacco. I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing this in Week 1:

4. Shedeur Sanders Resting: People were wondering what was going on in practice when QB Shedeur Sanders wasn’t getting any work in team drills. After practice, the team said it was due to “arm soreness.”
Official team reason for Shedeur Sanders not throwing in any team drills was 'arm soreness.' Which is interesting since he's had the fewest reps overall of the 4 QBs.

5. Red Zone / Goal Line Drills: With Sanders not doing team drills, Flacco and QB Dillon Gabriel got all of the team reps. It started with Gabriel and the second-team offense up against the first-team defense, before Flacco came on with the first-team offense. It was all pass plays starting at the 10 yard line, and the defense won the battles. Gabriel was 1-of-6, while Flacco was 1-of-3:

6. Not Fooling Denzel: We talked about how WR Diontae Johnson has been having a nice camp, but it’s tough to fool top cornerback Denzel Ward, and they also had plenty of battles against each other from his Pittsburgh days. Here is Ward defending a pass tightly against Johnson:

7. Play of the Day: QB Joe Flacco continues to look silky smooth in practice. Here he is lofting the ball perfectly for a touchdown to WR Greg Larvadain in the back right corner of the end zone. The two had also connected earlier on a deep post route.

8. Brownies: DT Shelby Harris had some passes broken up. ... CB Myles Harden did a good job in coverage. ... DE Isaiah McGuire returned after missing a practice. ... With running back reps lately, it’s been RB Jerome Ford and RB Dylan Sampson as the one-two tandem.
9. Next Up: The Browns next practice is Monday at 2:00 pm. It will be the final of eight practices open to the public. The theme will be “Orange and Brown.” The food truck will be Uncle Bacon’s BBQ. The giveaway will be Schedule Magnets, courtesy of ESPN Cleveland.
