Triple H is still saying the same things about Donald Trump, Vince McMahon

WHAT'S THE STORY?

A pre-SummerSlam interview Paul “Triple H” Levesque did with The Sports Agents podcast drew attention online after its release yesterday (Aug. 1).

That was primarily because of quotes from the pod in which the WWE’s Chief Creative Officer comments on President Donald Trump and former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. Neither is substantially different from Levesque’s past answers about his fellow Hall of Famer or his father-in-law, but they renewed criticism of how the CCO and the entire company have handled

their relationship to both — especially coming on the heels of his latest visit to the White House.

On McMahon, who resigned in early 2024 in the wake of a civil lawsuit was filed by a former girlfriend & WWE employee Janel Grant that alleged he sexually abused and trafficked her, Levesque again sought to separate his job (which McMahon did for most of WWE’s existence) and the company itself from its former leader. As host Mark Pougatch emphasized that McMahon has denied Grant’s allegations in his question about how WWE creative has moved on without him, Vince’s son-in-law also stressed that in his answer:

“For us as a company, creative, you know, all we can do is move forward. And allegations are allegations, right? It’s a complicated relationship for anybody in life. Nobody is perfect. But accusations are made, and that’s a whole legal thing that is totally separate and aside from what we do.

“My job is to put on the best creative product that WWE can do. And luckily and happily, it’s been successful and it’s been working wonderfully. Business is in an incredible place right now and continuing to grow, especially with our partners at Netflix, and NBC, and CW, and everyone in between. It’s a wonderful time in our business and fans are enjoying it. So we’re headed in a good direction.”

As he has in the past, including in his Hall of Fame speech during WrestleMania weekend a few months ago, The Game also listed McMahon as among those whose “learning tree” he sat under in preparation for his current job.

On the subject of America’s Chief Executive, Pougatch seemed more skeptical of Levesque’s past comments about Trump. Referencing the President’s recent public/private trip to Scotland, The Sports Agents’ host asks, “is it right that you described him as a genius?”

Haitch replied:

“I think in many ways... as you move through life you continue to learn. And I think that over time, everybody learns.

“He is one of the most intuitive people, I think, that I’ve met. Also, when he has a plan and he knows that it’s correct, he will stick to that. I think over time, many times that’s proven to be correct — but I think he admits when it’s wrong, also. Political — you know, my world is not a political world. My world is a world of entertainment.

“I’ve always enjoyed my interactions with him when he’s been here [in WWE], and he’s in our Hall of Fame. So my hat’s off to him.

“I can only imagine, as people ask me about the stresses and the criticisms and the negativities around leading WWE and the creative, I can only imagine what it is to be a world leader in this day and age.

“So my hat’s off to anybody in this arena, whether it’s the Mayor of London, the President of the United States, or anybody in between. God bless them, and the job that they do.”

There’s plenty we could quibble with in that answer — first and foremost, the notion of Trump admitting he’s wrong about anything. But at this point, Levesque’s affinity for the President is clear, as is WWE’s insistence on insisting they’re not political.

As you can tell, I certainly have thoughts, feelings, and opinions on Levesque and WWE’s positions on McMahon and Trump. But as I often have trouble reading my own moral compass when it comes to weighing those against my enjoyment of their performers and product, I’m not going to pretend to tell you what you should do with this confirmation of the CCO’s positions.

But now you know what he said. And if you want to hear more, you can check out his full appearance on The Sports Agents here.
