The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded left-handed reliever Caleb Ferguson to the Seattle Mariners.
The deal was first reported by MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand and others before being announced by the Pirates on Wednesday night.
Pittsburgh acquired right-handed pitching prospect Jeter Martinez in a one-for-one deadline deal.
Ferguson signed a one-year contract in the offseason and pitched well through 45 games.
He earned a 3.74 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 34 strikeouts through 43.1 innings in 45 games. Ferguson earned a 2.38
ERA in April and was lights out in June (0.75 ERA in 12 innings).
Ferguson allowed seven runs in his last 7.1 frames, but five scoreless outings in eight July appearances.
In 16 starts in Single-A, Martinez posted a 6.18 ERA and 1.61 WHIP through 62.2 innings. In 2024, Martinez struck out 49, earned a .207 opponent average, and a 3.86 ERA over 39.2 innings in rookie ball.
The trading deadline is Thursday at 6 p.m.
