Burnley are set to make it a trio of signings from Chelsea this summer, agreeing a deal for the transfer of Lesley Ugochukwu today, according to The Athletic. The 21-year-old midfielder is set to follow Bashir Humphreys (who was already at the Clarets on loan last season) and Armando Broja (not yet official, but also reportedly agreed). On defender, one striker, one midfielder to complete the set!
Ugochukwu spent all of last season on loan at Southampton, and though he couldn’t quite save that historically
bad outfit from relegation, he did manage to stand out from among the rest and earn a stay in the top division. And he will get to do so in a more stable setting now.
Chelsea paid £23m to Rennes in 2023 to sign the young midfielder. It’s unclear what the value attached to this transfer now may be, but we’ve looked to recoup our investments in most of our player-trading, so presumably that’s also the case here.
