Marc Guiu’s season was rudely interrupted by injury just when it looked like the youngster had settled in and started showing some real promise, though he did return in time to be part of our Club World Cup squad, making two appearances altogether at the tournament.
Overall, he would finish the season with 16 appearances, including 9 in the UEFA Conference League, where he was our second leading goalscorer with 6, after Christopher Nkunku’s 7 (in 11 appeareances). He did however make just 3 appearances in the Premier
League, which would make a potential loan to newly promoted Sunderland for the upcoming season a step-up and a challenge for the 19-year-old striker.
But no one’s gotten better without rising to a challenge, so if the report from Sky Sports is true, and the two teams agree a deal, Guiu will indeed be putting himself to the test. Sink or swim!
