Bayern Munich have just won another trophy, albeit a virtual one. The German champions have officially been crowned the social media champions of the Bundesliga as well.
The International Football Institute (IFI) created a metric based on the evaluations of all the social media channels of all eighteen clubs in the Bundesliga over the 2024/25 season. The evaluated mediums were YouTube, Instagram, Facebook (does anyone even use this anymore?) and TikTok. The number of followers, posting frequency,
reach of videos/reels, and the channels’ interaction and growth rates were all taken into account to calculate a “social media index figure,” which was then put into a ranked table.
As one of the biggest clubs in the world and the biggest club in Germany, Bayern topped the table without question. It comes as little surprise to see Borussia Dortmund coming in second as well, as they are the second biggest club in the country. But then, the table takes a completely random detour as humble FC Heidenheim took third place. Bear in mind that FCH had only completed their second season in the Bundesliga, so this is quite a spectacle. Heidenheim were not the only underdog punching above the belt, however. Holstein Kiel, who finished dead last in the league last season, came in mid table at tenth place, above the likes of Werder Bremen and SC Freiburg. Union Berlin, meanwhile, finished next to last, which is a pity for a club with such a loyal fanbase. Unsurprisingly, RB Leipzig and TSG Hoffenheim, some of the most hated clubs in Germany, finished in the bottom three, with the latter coming in dead last.

Now, just for laughs, imagine if this is how the actual Bundesliga table ended up looking like. We would be seeing Heidenheim in the Champions League, Kiel staying in the Bundesliga, and best of all, Leipzig falling into the relegation zone (and hopefully losing in the playoffs).
Correction: the best thing would be Bayern topping the table, of course. Champions of Germany both on and off the pitch.
