After collecting victories in the previous two contests, the Colorado Rockies enter the third game of their series with the Minnesota Twins with a chance to collect their first home sweep of the season with a win on Sunday afternoon.

To do so, Germán Márquez (3-10, 5.57 ERA) will need to continue the positive trends that he’s exhibited recently. He’s allowed two or fewer runs in five of his six most recent starts, the sole outlier being a tough outing against the Chicago White Sox on July 5th. He’s pitching

like a man reborn, which is good news for him as he continues on what’s likely to be his last season with the Rockies before signing elsewhere.

Márquez has strong results in two previous starts against Minnesota, as he’s allowed one earned run in 12 2⁄3 innings against the Twins. He’s also likely excited to be playing during the early afternoon, as Márquez has seen far better results this season with the sun shining down from the sky rather than the moon.

The Twins will counter with Joe Ryan (9-4, 2.72 ERA), who’s been as steady as anyone in their rotation. Ryan’s sneakily performed as one of the best pitchers in MLB this season, and will likely be a tough puzzle for Colorado’s batters to solve. His four-seam fastball is one of the most potent weapons in the game today, thanks in part to his extreme vertical approach angle. The Rockies will have their work cut out for them today as they try to solve this mighty pitch.

The good news? They’ve done it before, as Ryan owns an ERA over 8 in two starts against Colorado, though his record is actually 1-0.

Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer has composed an...interesting lineup for today’s contest. Ezequiel Tovar is taking the day off and Tyler Freeman is feeling sick, while Ryan Ritter has been transferred to the 10-Day IL. As such, Adael Amador has been recalled and will start at second base and Orlando Arcia will hold down shortstop.
