Bayern Munich’s integration of young talent has been heavily criticized for some time now. Despite having promoted three players from the youth academy into the current first team, there are so many more players who have decided leaving the academy early is the best step for the career. Adam Aznou, sold to Everton FC, is just the latest in the line. And it has resulted in plenty of outside critique.

Such criticism was always going to be brought up to Bayern’s sporting bosses. Bayern board member for

sport, Max Eberl, was asked about his response on said critiqu.

“I haven’t been following the reports that closely. With Josip Stanišić, Aleks Pavlović, and Jamal, we have three regular starters who came through our youth academy. That doesn’t happen very often. We’ve always tried to develop players step by step. We now also have players who have real potential. That doesn’t mean they’ll become starters in the first team,” Eberl pointed out, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “They’ll have to perform well in training to then get the chance to play. Success is paramount at FC Bayern. Nevertheless, we want to develop young players. Paul Wanner, too, now has a great opportunity to take the next step and establish himself at FC Bayern. We’ve developed numerous professional players through the campus. I see that as a positive.”

The new season is going to be another chance for the sporting management and head coach Vincent Kompany to show that they can integrate youngsters into the first team after all.
