He would leave the ball there for Joao Pedro to get to the ball but his shot from close range was saved by Rangel. A cross into the area was headed from close range by Richard Ledezma but San Luis’ goalkeeper, Andres Sanchez made a save. Unfortunately for him, the ball would then bounce off San Luis’ defender Juan Manuel Sanabria’s legs and into the net for the own goal that gave Chivas the 1-0 lead. They were very similar plays but Chivas had been lucky and San Luis wasn’t. After getting the ball in the area, Cade Cowell got off a left footed shot that was saved by Sanchez. The halftime whistle blew as Chivas took a solid lead to their dressing room.

The 2nd half started with Chivas subbing out Daniel Aguirre for Diego Campillo. Off a corner kick, the cross would be headed from close range by a wide open Eduardo Aguila past Rangel to give San Luis the goal that placed the score at 2-1. The early 2nd half goal was a good sign for San Luis to try to get that tie. Chivas subbed out Richard Ledezma and Cade Cowell for Efrain Alvarez and Alan Mozo. There was a cross from Bryan Gonzalez that was deflected almost into the net but it went just wide. San Luis subbed out Oliveira for Garcia. Off a counter a low shot from Roman Torres was saved by Rangel but as the well was blocked, it looked like Joao Pedro was tripped by Erick Gutierrez. Chivas subbed out Bryan Gonzalez and Alan Pulido for Hugo Camberos and Armando Gonzalez. It was a deserved tie for Chivas, who had looked the better side since going down in the score for the first time in the match. Off a great counter, Alvarez would make off a great play to get past two defenders and then send the cross where Armando Gonzalez would get off a left footed shot from close range past Sanchez to score and give Chivas the 4-3 lead. It was the last chance as Chivas got a great performance to get a great result.

Chivas finally made their home debut after preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, postponed their Matchday 1 match against Tigres. Chivas started with a great result although they had to bounce back after a disastrous start to their 2nd half in which they gave up a two goal lead with a couple of bad defensive mistakes. Yet Chivas took a deserved result with great performances from Efrain Alvarez and Armando Gonzalez that should inspire their fans. On the other hand, Atletico San Luis wasted a great effort in bouncing back to get the lead and failed to get a good result. They will need to bounce back in their next match where they will host Cruz Azul in a tough matchup. Chivas will have another great opportunity to get points when they travel to face off against struggling Santos Laguna.
