There was a time where saying ‘their ace’ in regards to the Cincinnati Reds narrowed the discussion to just Hunter Greene. Greene, who has absolutely pitched like ‘an’ ace over the last two seasons, has subsequently been joined in that conversation by the brilliance of Andrew Abbott, who made his first All-Star team this year.
It would be a disservice to not mention Nick Lodolo’s work here, too. To date, his 3.9 bWAR ranks as the 10th most by a pitcher in all of Major League Baseball, and even if
you use a small-hall description of what an ‘ace’ truly is, that’s firmly in ace territory.
Cincinnati’s pitching staff is outstanding at the moment, and two of those above names will be on the mound tonight. Lodolo will toe the rubber for the Reds in GABP against the Los Angeles Dodgers, while Greene will make his first rehab start with AAA Louisville as he works his way back to the Reds. The team announced the move earlier today, and Greene is listed by the Bats as their starter this evening against Omaha.

In other roster news, Rece Hinds was recalled from AAA Louisville after TJ Friedl was placed on the paternity list. Congrats to TJ, who we’ll see back in a couple of days.

For tonight, at least, Will Benson will get the start in CF for the Reds, while Gavin Lux - who’ll start in LF - moves into the leadoff spot in Friedl’s stead.
