Mohammad Yahya suffered a loss at UFC Abu Dhabi on Saturday but he somehow escaped serious injury despite his eye ballooning up from the damage he absorbed in his fight against Steven Nguyen.
After becoming the victim for the most knockdowns in a single fight in UFC history following six trips to the canvas, Yahya was sporting serious swelling around his left eye. A cut under the eye didn’t help but the swelling was so severe that he clearly couldn’t see anything out of that side of his face after
the second round ended.
It didn’t take referee Jason Herzog long to look at Yahya’s face and know the fight was already over.
Judging by the amount of damage he was wearing around his eye, it seemed almost a certainty that Yahya likely suffered a broken orbital bone or something else severe but that wasn’t the case.
During the UFC Abu Dhabi broadcast, it was confirmed that while Yahya did go to a local medical facility for treatment, he actually suffered “no facial fractures” as a result of the loss.

That’s good but albeit somewhat surprising news given the way Yahya looked afterwards with UFC CEO Dana White posting a photo him backstage after leaving the octagon.
The loss dropped Yahya to 0-3 in the UFC and it’s possible that while he avoided serious injury, he may not get to stick around on the roster much longer after this latest setback.
