Basically
every comment section on every article has turned into trade talk, so we’re setting a central location for trade speculation and news reactions.
Key Dates and Rules
- Deadline: July 31, 2025, at 6 p.m. ET is the deadline for teams to trade players on 40-man rosters. After this, trades are no longer permitted, though players can still be claimed on outright waivers.
- No August Waiver Trades: Since 2019, the August waiver trade period was eliminated, making July 31 the only deadline for trades. I have to remind myself of this all the time, so I’m reminding you too.
Heading into the second half, 15 of 30 teams are more than 6.5 games back in the standings for their divisions; however, the wild card is a competitive race.
Only three teams in the AL are more than 4.5 games back in the standings (the Rays are 1.5 games back), while the NL has more of a spread.
