Seth Rollins cashes in after CM Punk wins world heavyweight title at SummerSlam

WHAT'S THE STORY?

The main event of tonight’s (Sat., Aug. 2, 2025) SummerSlam premium live event at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, featured GUNTHER putting the world heavyweight championship on the line against CM Punk. There was a ton of intrigue going into this one, even if the story was a tad vanilla.

Rumors of GUNTHER needing time off swirled, and Seth Rollins’ true injury status remained a talking point, all as a backdrop to whether or not this would be Punk’s latest crowning achievement.

repeatedly tested, and took one hell of an extended beating by the champion. He simply wouldn’t go away, getting back up time and time again. When Punk made his comeback, he busted GUNTHER wide open, the champ bleeding heavily from his face.

Punk teed off from there, hitting the big flying elbow and calling for the GTS. GUNTHER managed to reverse it into a sleeper but Punk powered him up and hit his finish anyway. It didn’t put the champ down, so he hit him with another.

That did it.

CM Punk is the new world heavyweight champion.

An injured Seth Rollins made his way out, crutches keeping him up. He yelled down for Punk to hold onto the title for as long as he could.

Then he threw the crutches down and rushed the ring, laying Punk down with the briefcase before cashing in, hitting the Stomp, and pinning him to become champion once more. They called it the “ruse of the century.”

My word.
