Alberto El Patron ‘fired’ from AAA

WHAT'S THE STORY?

@luchalibreaaa

Alberto Del Rio is gone from AAA.

At least, in storyline he is. I don’t know what this means in real life behind the scenes.

Alberto hasn’t seen eye to eye with El Ojo in recent weeks, and that put him at odds with Dorian Roldan, who is the boss of AAA. El Ojo faction turned on Alberto. Roldan booked El Patron in a match with a special stipulation. If Alberto loses to El Mesias, then Alberto is ‘fired’ from AAA forever.

That mach took place in the main event of the AAA television taping on Friday night

(July 25, 2025) in Mexico City. Alberto and Mesias brawled before the opening bell. Alberto had the upper hand for a DDT on stage, then El Ojo attacked. Mecha Wolf, Sanson, and Forastero pounded Alberto, while Roldan stood by with a smile. Alberto and Mesias eventually entered the ring for the match to officially begin.

As if that wasn’t enough of an advantage for Mesias, Alberto also had to deal with crooked referee Hijo del Tirantes. The ref held Alberto’s arms so Mesias could punch him. When Roldan landed a few fists, the ref ran over to hand him a trashcan lid instead. Smash! The numbers were overwhelming for Alberto. The tide turned when Alberto broke free to spear Mesias. That momentum didn’t last long. Mecha Wolf spit blue mist in Alberto’s face, and Mesias regained control.

Alberto rallied to take down the whole group with suplexes and slams. El Patron had the pin on Mesias. Hijo del Tirantes counted 2, but he hurt his hand and couldn’t complete the 3-count. As the match progressed, Alberto tasted sweet revenge for an armbar on Roldan.

If you thought this match was wacky up to this point, just wait for the finish.

Alberto dodged Mesias, who crashed through a wooden board in the corner. Roldan delivered a low blow to Alberto. When Roldan grabbed his guitar, Alberto returned the favor for a low blow. Alberto smashed the guitar over Roldan’s head. El Patron used the broken guitar to hit members of El Ojo. Mesias took advantage of the chaos to throw powder in Alberto’s face. Mesias ran the ropes for a spear. The ref made a fast count on the pin to award the victory to Mesias. That means Alberto is fired from AAA.

AAA has a fine line between greatness and garbage in their main event style. This one delivered fun entertainment in an action-comedy way. It probably helps the level of enjoyment to be invested in the story.

I’m shocked at the result. It’s not completely unexpected due to the WWE factor in ownership and the general uncertainty of Alberto’s future in the company. However, I did not think the storyline would be Alberto losing a match with such high stakes at a TV taping against Mesias. And granted, this may just be 100% part of the storyline. Alberto shared a handshake with Latin Lover to close the show. They were bitter rivals earlier this year. That moment might be a hint that Latin Lover pulls some strings to bring Alberto back for Triplemania. We shall see.
