The second-to-last NBA Summer League game is here, and the Summer Jazz are set to tangle tonight at 8pm MST. The Jazz are coming off a heartbreaking loss (sorta) to the Summer Spurs, which was tempered by a stellar performance by sophomore Kyle Filipowski, who put up 35 and 11 in the loss.

As for the other
more promising Jazzmen of the summer, Ace Bailey and Walter Clayton Jr. are listed as “day-to-day.” Jazz fans are hopeful to see Ace especially, but the prospects of that seem dubious.
Others have opined that Flip is too good for Summer League, and they are probably right. However, he is still scheduled to play. Removing him from the lineup would leave the Summer Jazz with a fairly thin big man rotation, hindering the development of the other young players. A lineup without Flip would probably lead to this:

For their part, Washington’s injury report is somewhat long as well. Standout guard Tre Johnson and Jazz hero Bub Carrington are day-to-day, as is star power forward Alex Sarr. However, Sarr’s status was listed as “rest” for Washington’s recent tilt with the Summer 76ers, so it is far more likely that we will see him. Former Weber State Wilcat Dillon Jones, fresh off a championship with the Oklahoma City Thunder, will likely play heavy minutes on the guardline.

Kyle Filipowski feasted on iffy defense from the Spurs frontcourt, which was staffed by smaller—though formidable—men such as Carter Bryant. He will have his hands full if he faces Alex Sarr, a far hardier presence inside. One key factor that will determine whether Kyle can be a solid NBA rotation player is his ability to defend NBA bigs, and Sarr presents a great test—if he plays.
